Shopping for a new motorhome can be loads of fun or a real headache, depending on how you approach it. Motorhomes are big investments, but the payoff will be countless summer memories of fun and adventure with the whole family. If you want the best deal on a great vehicle, then you’ll need some help!

Model Class

Motorhomes come in three classes based on size: Class A, B, and C. The unintuitively smallest of the classes, Class B motorhomes are generally built on commercial van chassis and won’t sleep more than four people. They’re great for couples or small families comfortable with an intimate RV experience.

The next step up in size, Class C motorhomes are usually built on industrial truck chassis and can have powerful engines well suited to carrying plenty of components and amenities. That means more floor space and more sleeping berths.

Class A motorhomes are the biggest of the bunch. These RVs work great for large families and those who just need more space. A lounge and full galley, entertainment center, and fully stocked bathroom are standard for these motorhomes. These beasts are even powerful enough to tow an additional vehicle, which allows you to explore an area in a smaller vehicle while using your Class A as a base camp.

Amenities

The creature comforts offered by a motorhome are one of the details to pay attention to. It’s the difference between a comfortable and well-outfitted RV and one that’s just a hollow shell of disappointment. Amenities include stuff like TV entertainment systems, showers, AC, and premium mattresses. Of course, no one will get in your way if you want a more ascetic on-the-mountaintop feel, but these are luxury products by default, and most people want to get the most and best amenities they can afford.

Sleeping Space

Give yourself one or two extra beds beyond what your family might need. The kids may have friends they want to bring along, or you may want to bring a friend or sibling. When it comes to RVs, the more, the merrier! It’s best to leave yourself with options when it comes to sleeping areas.

Slide outs

Slide-outs can increase the floor space of your motorhome substantially. Class A motorhomes often have two or more slide-outs to make space for multiple beds, couches, and dining areas. Even a Class B motorhome (or perhaps, especially a Class B motorhome) can make great use of slide-outs. They add valuable space to an otherwise maneuverable and easy-to-drive vehicle.
